Matthew 9:37

An email from Christopher last night arrived in the midst of a deep conversation with our HouseChurch about branching, and going outside of our comfort zone to serve in the way God calls us to serve.

I love my husband.  I love his heart.  I love his willingness to get dirty.  I love that he has become a shining example in our home of what it means to SEEK God.

Getting ready to leave for Negros. It will take several hours to get there but I will keep you updated. I love all three of you so much.

Matthew 9:37 has been on my heart all morning... The harvest is great but the workers are few.

Looking forward to seeing the orphanage on the other island.

A New Approach... Traveling WEST

Indy to SanFrancisco:
  • Apparently there was no food
  • ... but the mountain view was good.
  • Read When I Found You

SanFrancisco to Seoul, Korea:
  • Enjoyed the meals!  (One was beef with vegetables, and the other was chicken and rice. )
  • Had an isle seat so I didn't have to crawl over anyone so that was good.
  • Didn't get to sleep, I almost did and we had about an hour of steady turbulence so I couldn't get all the way asleep.
  • Watched Philomena and August: Osage County.
  • Read.
  • Can't see Seoul from the airport, at least nothing noteworthy.
  • The mountains we flew over in Japan were pretty sweet though.

Seoul, Korea to Cebu City, Phillipines:

Cebu City to Escalante to Bonista Beach:

"We will drive from Cebu to Tabuelan Port to take a ferry across to Escalante on Negros Occidental"

(Thursday, 10am) "Loaded on the ferry at Toledo heading to San Carlos, then up to Escalante."
(Thursday, 3:15pm)  "Made it to Escalante"
(Thursday, 7:01pm)  "At Bonista Beach Resort. Bare bones but clean and safe. Hopefully a good night of rest is in my future."

Where the Leader is the Holy Spirit, not me...  obviously.

Here's the story of how Christopher got roped into travelling to Uganda in May 2012.

Growing up I had heard the term mission trip several times but it always seemed to have a connotation of going to some remote place and preaching sermons. It was definitely not something that I felt comfortable with or called to do.

MaryAnn went to Uganda in October of 2011 and I was thrilled for her to have that experience, and when she asked me to accompany her to a lunch for Tim and Janice McCall at our church I was excited to go and meet them. Getting to meet Tim and seeing his face light up when he learned that I am a Diesel Mechanic really stirred my heart,...maybe I could serve God, serve others while using my abilities to do those things.

I signed up for a Vision Trip through Common Ground here in Indianapolis for a May 2012 trip. I sent out prayer letters and before long I was packing my tools up for the trip. Luckily I was able to communicate with Tim to find out what specific equipment they had and what I could do to help them repair and maintain those pieces of equipment.

Once at RG I couldn’t wait to get started. Within an hour of arriving I found myself along the Nile River - under the hood of an ancient deuce and a half dump truck trying to get it started. For several days I felt like I was doing great things, but there lies the problem, Iwas doing great things. Then later that week, I found myself working on a shredder and I spent all day fighting it, not getting one single thing accomplished.

I felt like a failure.

Speaking with Tim that evening, he told me that God is always in control. I realized that I was trying to make this work about me, and that couldn’t be farther from the truth. For my remaining time in Uganda I was able to get many more things accomplished but I felt like the realization of giving God the glory even during trials would be the best thing I could have realized on this trip.

I made it safely home to my girls and in time to get ready for the birth of my son.

Uganda: African Renewal Ministries

Our first day in Kampala was a busy one!

We started bright and early with a group devotional over breakfast.  Monday was a day without electricity, but our breakfast of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and the sweetest tiny bananas (you know, the ones Caroline is always begging for at the grocery store) was delicious and filling.  As we concluded breakfast and the devotional, the children in the school next door started their worship time.  The sound of their hymns filled the house, and my heart was completely still as I listened to these sweet voices lift up the name of Jesus.

We spent the first part of the day learning as much as possible about the African Renewal Ministries operations and outreach ministries...

ARM operates a child sponsorship program that provides an education, preventative medical care, clothing/school uniforms, and a nutritious school meal to hundreds of children in the area.  We were able to meet with the office staff, learn about the eligibility criteria, and visit a classroom that was working on pictures and letters that would be sent to each child's sponsor.  It was a blessing to hear the staff speak with such pride and love about their work.  They pray unceasingly for the needs of each child to be met, they walk in faith that each day will bring a new commitment from a sponsor to walk alongside a child and support them through their formative years, and they work diligently to make sure it all of the work is done with diligence, respect, and transparency.

Another ministry within the ARM umbrella is the MERCY NETWORK.  I'll share more about my firsthand experience with the Mercy Network volunteers another time, but we were able to learn a lot about this inspiring ministry on our tour.  The Mercy Network staff work to
